Online Music Composition Lessons
I’m a composer, pianist and sound editor based in Wellington, New Zealand.
I offer online Zoom lessons in composition, orchestration, film scoring and game music.
A list of my credits can be found here, and you can listen to some of my music on Spotify.
As a composer I’ve composed for films, games, commercials, museums, ballet and theatre, and as a music editor I’ve worked on large studio projects (such as The Hobbit and Spartacus: House of Ashur), as well as many smaller indie short films and games. My works have been performed by large orchestra as well as small chamber ensembles, and I’m fluent in electronic/synth composition and production. I’ve also taught film music and sound design at the New Zealand Film and Television School.
Lessons are $60USD per hour and are tailored to your individual needs, depending on your experience, and the nature of your compositional goals.
I’m happy working with composers at all stages from beginner to advanced, and can help with areas such as:
Developing your own distinctive musical voice
The creative process - from sketch to final score
Techniques to develop musical ideas
Getting your music in front of performers and audiences
Learning how to record and distribute your music
As a composer for film, TV, commercials and games, I’m familiar with a wide range of musical genres and instruments and aim to help you work with the tools and skillset you have, as well as expanding these further. My primary software platforms are industry standards Pro Tools and Sibelius. I’m equally comfortable with notated contemporary classical music, or film score and MIDI/software DAW-based composition.
In the field of film music I’m very familiar with the process of taking a score from the initial compositional stage right through to delivery of the final score to the mix theatre. I’m also experienced in digital music promotion, having released six successful albums of my own on streaming platforms such as Spotify, and am very interested in helping artists grow their career by getting their music in front of their ideal audience.
